Fostering Community Support Across the Industry

The Aluminium Federation (ALFED) has been proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 (12 – 18 May), joining organisations across the country in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. This year’s theme, “Community,” resonates deeply with the industry, where collaboration, teamwork, and a strong sense of shared purpose have long been key to success.

UK Aluminium Sector Unites for Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 - The Aluminium Federation

As one of the UK’s core manufacturing sectors, aluminium businesses are increasingly recognising the vital role of mental health in building resilient, productive workforces. Across foundries, fabrication facilities, offices and supply chains, companies are taking steps to ensure that employees feel supported, connected and heard.

“People are at the heart of everything we do in this industry,” said Nadine Bloxsome, CEO of ALFED. “Community doesn’t just mean where we live — it’s also how we support one another at work. This week gives us an opportunity to reflect, connect and build healthier workplaces together.”

During Mental Health Awareness Week, organisations across the sector have been encouraged to:

  • Host awareness sessions or wellbeing workshops
  • Share internal and external mental health resources with staff
  • Promote open conversations about stress, mental illness, and support pathways
  • Encourage inclusive, connected working environments
  • Highlight any existing employee wellbeing programmes

The aluminium industry has a long-standing culture of problem-solving and innovation — and that same spirit can be applied to improving mental health outcomes for all. Whether it’s checking in on a colleague, offering flexible working solutions, or normalising discussions around mental wellbeing, small actions can make a big difference.

As the theme “Community” reminds us: mental health is everyone’s business.
