The needs of the automotive, construction and energy industries have all traditionally created growth in the aluminium industry but new areas of innovation are also having a positive impact on the industry. These areas include within additive manufacturing, coatings and composites, and electrification – all of which are reshaping manufacturing, industry and the world around us.

TWI News: Today’s Aluminium Industry - The Aluminium Federation

Additive manufacturing with aluminium alloys is being adopted for production processes by high-end industries, where it offers a cost-effective solution for the manufacture of complex and bespoke parts as well as time-savings. Aluminium is also being used to deliver performance improvements through its addition to other elements to create new composite materials. It is also helping drive electrification in industries including aerospace, automotive and space as aluminium is added to batteries to help offset the additional weight of the batteries themselves.
