EMR’s newly-opened Glasgow Site, based at King George V dock, has partnered with SAPC Community Sports Hub SCIO to offer free sporting activities to young people.Sporting opportunities provided to young people through partnership between SAPC and EMR - The Aluminium Federation

SAPC, which was founded ten years ago, believes that every person should have access to free sporting activities, whether this be badminton, football or cycling. They use sport to promote social cohesion, eliminate discrimination and promote a culture of unity, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles.

The donation made by EMR Glasgow KGV will be used to enable nine young people between the ages of 14 and 18 years to attend the Erasmus sporting competition in Amsterdam. This will not only engage them in activities that benefit their health, but also allow them to develop friendships with their peers.

Calum Bulloch, General Manager, EMR Glasgow KGV said: “Sport is a vital part of every young person’s physical and mental development. Unfortunately, many young people do not have access to free sporting opportunities.

“SAPC provides a safe space for young people to explore different sporting opportunities whilst also making new friendships. I know our donation will have a massive impact on the young people who benefit from it.”

Having launched in 2020, EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme has seen EMR support over 40 causes across the UK. The programme aims to help young people to build bright futures by offering resources that may not be readily available to them.

Thomas Buik of SAPC added: “Providing opportunities to young people is essential for their personal growth. The visit to Amsterdam has allowed local young people to engage with their peers from Croatia, Netherlands and Romania, learning about themselves and each other. A fantastic experience for them all made possible with the support of EMR.”
