ALFED Member, Smiths Metal Centre’s recently celebrated Senior Buyer, Jenny Webb’s 40th work anniversary with the company.
The average person is said to change jobs around 12 times in their working lifetime, while staying with their employer for an average time of 4.3 years, according to statistics in a survey from January 2022. This makes Jenny’s 40 years of service at Smith’s an incredible achievement.
Speaking on her achievement, Jenny commented: “40 years have flown by”… I remember my first day at Smiths, or J Smiths & Sons (Clerkenwell) as it was known then, I started as an admin assistant typing up customer invoices, entering orders into ledgers and lots and lots of filing! Fast forward a few years and I was promoted into the sales office where I stayed for many years building some wonderful relationships with our customers and colleagues alike, and I would have stayed in sales until following a conversation with our then purchasing director which meant that a move into the purchasing dept ensued, and I haven’t looked back since. Every day is different and that’s something I enjoy and thrive on, now working closely with our suppliers which has been key over these last few years. I work and have worked with some phenomenal people, and count many as personal friends. At the end of the day, it’s one of the main reasons I continue to enjoy working for Smiths and long may it continue.”
