ALFED would like to update members that QUALICOAT UK & Ireland has appointed the Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB) as its new Secretariat, with the transition taking effect from 1 November 2026.

This marks the conclusion of over a Decade of ALFED acting as Secretariat to QUALICOAT UK & Ireland, during which time we have supported the organisation in maintaining and promoting high standards in aluminium finishing across the UK and Ireland.
What is changing
The transition to CAB reflects a strategic decision by QUALICOAT UK & Ireland to align more closely with the architectural and built environment sectors. CAB’s focus and networks within construction are expected to strengthen engagement and enhance the value delivered to QUALICOAT members.
The handover will take place over the coming months, with no anticipated disruption to existing QUALICOAT services or certification processes.
Clarifying roles: ALFED and QUALICOAT
As this transition progresses, it is helpful to outline how ALFED and QUALICOAT will continue to work alongside one another in supporting the sector.
QUALICOAT is an international quality label organisation, focused on setting and maintaining technical standards for powder coating on aluminium, particularly within architectural applications. Certification through QUALICOAT provides assurance of quality and compliance with these established standards.
ALFED remains the UK trade association representing the aluminium industry across the full value chain. Our role is to support members through policy advocacy, market development, industry collaboration and technical engagement, ensuring the sector is effectively represented and supported.
These roles are highly complementary, and many ALFED members also hold QUALICOAT certification as part of their commitment to best practice. This transition does not change that relationship, and we will continue to work closely with both QUALICOAT and CAB to support our members and the wider finishing sector.
ALFED’s ongoing support
Although Secretariat responsibilities will transfer to CAB, ALFED will remain actively engaged in supporting the finishing sector and those members who are part of QUALICOAT.
Nadine Bloxsome, CEO of ALFED, commented:
“We are incredibly proud of the role ALFED has played in supporting QUALICOAT UK & Ireland, and the strong foundation that has been built during this time.
This transition represents a positive step in aligning QUALICOAT more closely with the built environment, and we fully support this evolution.
We will continue to work closely with both QUALICOAT and CAB, ensuring alignment across the sector and ongoing support for our members who are committed to delivering the highest standards in aluminium finishing.”
Looking ahead
ALFED will continue to represent and support members across all parts of the aluminium value chain, including those operating within finishing and surface treatment. We look forward to maintaining a close working relationship with both QUALICOAT UK & Ireland and CAB as this transition progresses.
Further updates will be shared with members in due course.
