The Aluminium Federation (ALFED) is proud to have supported the inaugural Women With Metal – the ALUMINIUM Awards, which took place during ALUMINIUM 2024 in Düsseldorf. This first-of-its-kind event, created in collaboration with RX Germany, celebrated the achievements of exceptional women in the aluminium industry and highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion within the sector.

The awards were designed to recognise the outstanding contributions of women and their allies, who are instrumental in driving progress and innovation in the aluminium industry. As a testament to the strong presence of UK talent, Amy Bird from Countrywide Metals and Nicky Walker from Mechatherm, both ALFED members, were among the esteemed finalists.

Nadine Bloxsome, CEO of ALFED and one of the judges for the event, underscored the importance of these awards, stating:

“Awards like the Women With Metal Awards play a crucial role in highlighting these contributions and showing that women belong in every part of this industry. They help to shift perceptions, making it clear that a career in aluminium or any industrial sector is not only open to women but is also enriched by their perspectives and skills. When we celebrate these achievements, it sends a powerful message to young women who might not otherwise consider a career in this field. It shows them that there are role models to look up to and that the industry values and supports their potential.”

The awards honoured women across five categories, showcasing leadership, innovation, and sustainability. Among the winners were Negisti Gebreegziabher Gared of N A Y S Aluminium Engineering PLC as Role ModelGerd Aalborg Aas of Norsk Hydro as Unsung Shero, and Pia Reuß of Speira as Young Leader. These awards are a reminder of the diverse and invaluable contributions women bring to the aluminium sector, which is crucial for its growth and future.

As ALFED continues to promote diversity and support for women in aluminium, this event marks a significant milestone. We look forward to inspiring more women to pursue careers in aluminium and strengthening our industry through inclusivity and innovation.
