ALFED members, Smiths Metal Centre’s Verwood Office are moving for Macmillan this month! Committing to walk, run, cycle, and row the distance between all 13 Smith’s service centres; accumulating a total of 1500 miles! With them now at the halfway point of their mission, they are just £1,000 away from reaching their donations target! Any further donations from this point on will be massively appreciated and will help their final push towards the finish line!
In a world where 1 in 2 people are directly affected by cancer, there’s no question that it’s a fantastic cause to focus your fundraising efforts. No two days are ever the same when it comes to cancer support, from supporting those undergoing treatments, to providing emotional support for the family members of someone who is battling cancer. Every day, thousands of people living with cancer rely on Macmillan in thousands of different ways. But the tremendous support Macmillan provide wouldn’t be possible without the donations from the public, and the hard work and dedication put in from fundraisers. And this is why Smiths Verwood Centre should be applauded for the actions they are about to take.
With service centres from top to bottom of the country, including Belfast, Gateshead, Leeds, Manchester, Horsham, Verwood, Biggleswade, Chelmsford, Norwich, Bristol, Redruth, Birmingham, and Nottingham, there’s no doubt that Smiths Metal Centre’s have a major UK presence. Racking up a whopping 1500 miles, their Verwood centre certainly have their work cut out; covering each of these service centres by means of walking, running, cycling, and rowing!
Speaking about their upcoming challenge, Service Centre Manager at Smiths Verwood, Mike Barfoot commented: “Cancer really does impact everyone. We have all felt it here, Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, Uncles, Aunties, Partners, Friends, it does not discriminate. Although everyone at Smiths Verwood has had their lives touched by cancer in one way or another, the main reason for us choosing Macmillan is because of our driver Matt. Having already lost his wife and older brother to the disease, Matt’s younger brother has sadly just been diagnosed.
Matt could not speak more highly of Macmillan, adding: ‘When my wife passed away, they were brilliant. The support they offered was outstanding and they made my wife feel comfortable right up until the end. With my brother, they are offering the same great support to him and all our family. I could not speak highly enough about them.’
We wanted to do this to show Matt our support and for everyone out there being helped by Macmillan. Any amount we can raise will be great, but we are going to keep pushing to get as much as we can for an organisation that does so much for others.”
