The UK Government are launching a new life-saving Public Emergency Alerts system in the UK, which will give the Government and emergency services the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones when there is a risk to life.

Alert systems such as this are already successfully used across the world and save lives.

The system went live on Sunday 19 March and you may have heard that there will be a national test of the new system at 3pm on Sunday 23 April, which will consist of a loud, siren-like sound and vibration on mobile phones for up to 10 seconds. Our aim is to alert the country to this and reassure them that no action needs to be taken.

As a business or stakeholder, we would like you to kindly consider communicating the details of the test in the run-up to 23 April across your internal and external channels. We have provided a toolkit to help you do this which includes messages and links to creative assets. You can access these in the link below:

We would be grateful if you could:

  • Display the test specific asset on your channels; especially over the next few weeks before the test on the 23 April.
  • Share the asset across internal and external networks and ask to promote it.
  • Consider how you could amplify the national test date through communications.

Thank you for your support in helping to raise awareness about this national test.
