News from The Department of Business and Trade (DBT)

Following the passing of the Employment Rights Act 2025, it is important that employers are aware and prepared for how employment laws and workers’ rights are changing. With measures coming into effect over the coming months and years in a pragmatic, phased approach, the Government is committed to ensuring support and guidance is available to all employers seeking to understand how these changes will impact their business, and to workers who want to learn about their new rights.

Employment Rights Act 2025: Getting employers ready for employment rights changes - The Aluminium Federation

Today, we are launching a new website www.business.gov.uk/employment-changes, offering practical guidance and support on what the changes mean for employers and employees, and how they can get ready for upcoming changes. Content includes clear timelines, a summary of key changes and actions to take, and links to additional guidance.

Alongside this, we have produced a stakeholder toolkit to help stakeholders share key information and messages around what employers need to know and how they can get ready for the changes coming over the next few months. This outlines the key changes coming into effect, how you can help your members/clients prepare, key messages, and suggested newsletter, website and social media content and assets.

We will be grateful for any help you can provide in sharing the website and using the toolkit to reach your members, networks and wider audiences in order to help get employers ready.

The Government remains committed to consulting with stakeholders to shape this area of work, and will continue to engage with you as implementation progresses. We expect to be able to share news on the latest consultations later this week. We know it is vital that employers and workers have as much clarity and certainty about what’s changing, and when, as possible. And so, as part of the materials being published today, you will find further details on projected timelines for implementation of different measures, supplementing the Implementation Roadmap we published last year.

You will also find the latest Employment Rights Act factsheets to explain individual measures within the Employment Rights Act in more detail, including their intentions, their impact and their expected timelines.

ALFED is encouraging members to review this material, and to get in touch for further information.
