The material properties of aluminium make it particularly susceptible to weld material distortion. With a higher thermal expansion coefficient than many other metals, it is important to mitigate or prevent distortion when working with aluminium, especially in thin sheets.

TWI has a great deal of expertise in preventing and correcting weld material distortion through methods such as prevention by design, modelling and prediction and low stress no distortion welding.
