Novelis has reached a significant milestone at its Latchford site with the successful commissioning of new bag houses, an important step on our journey to double our capacity to recycle used beverage cans in the UK.

This development brings Novelis closer to being fully prepared for the future UK Deposit Return Scheme (DRS). Once complete, the Latchford expansion will enable Novelis to recycle 100% of the cans collected under the scheme, supporting a closed-loop system where aluminium packaging is continuously recovered and remade into new products.
The new bag houses form a critical part of a wider transformation at the site. Alongside them, Latchford will feature a purpose-built dross house and a suite of advanced technologies for shredding, sorting, de-coating, and melting. Together, these enhancements will significantly increase both capacity and operational efficiency, ensuring the plant can handle higher volumes of material while maintaining the highest standards of performance and environmental control.

Commissioning the bag houses represents more than just a technical achievement, it is a tangible step forward for the UK’s recycling infrastructure. By strengthening domestic recycling capabilities, Novelis is helping to keep valuable materials in circulation, reduce reliance on virgin resources, and support the transition to a more circular economy.
This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of the teams involved. Their hard work has brought this project to life and moved us one step closer to a more sustainable future for aluminium recycling in the UK. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.
