ALFED House of Lords Lunch
Delivering Domestic Demand, Trade Resilience and Industrial Capability
The House of Lords Lunch forms part of ALFED’s ongoing work through the UK Aluminium Alliance, which is focused on strengthening UK aluminium demand, improving scrap retention and utilisation, and building greater resilience across domestic and international trade relationships to support a secure, circular supply chain.
Event Sponsor: Lord Horam
We are pleased to confirm that Chris McDonald MP, Minister for Industry, will join us to open the event and meet directly with the aluminium sector. His attendance provides a timely opportunity for members to engage with Government at a senior level and to feed directly into discussions around industrial strategy, trade resilience and domestic capability.
We are also delighted to confirm that the Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP and the Rt Hon Antonia Bance MP shall be in attendance at the luncheon.
As the UK looks to deliver major defence, infrastructure, construction and net zero ambitions, aluminium has a critical role to play. This event will explore how trade policy, procurement frameworks and infrastructure delivery can be better aligned to support British-made and British-recycled aluminium, reduce exposure to global volatility, and unlock long-term investment and growth across the value chain.
Extended format for 2026
This year, we will be extending the timings of the House of Lords lunch to allow for:
- More in-depth discussion and debate
- Greater opportunity for member-to-member and member-to-policy-maker networking
- Contributions from a broader range of policy figures and stakeholders
This enhanced format is designed to ensure members have more time to engage, share perspectives and help shape the messages ALFED is taking forward on behalf of the sector.
Discussion will focus on:
- Growing domestic demand for aluminium across UK infrastructure and construction
- Strengthening trade resilience and reducing exposure to supply chain disruption
- The role of the UK Aluminium Alliance in demand creation, scrap utilisation and circularity
- Aligning trade policy, procurement and investment to strengthen UK industrial capability
- Supporting UK production and recycling within large-scale public and private projects
- Improving supply chain resilience while supporting decarbonisation objectives
The lunch will remain informal and discussion-led, providing members with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with policymakers and contribute to shaping the evidence and advocacy work ALFED is leading on trade, demand and industrial resilience.
Invite your Local MP to Join Us
ALFED members can play a vital role in strengthening the sector’s voice in Westminster by inviting their local MPs to attend the House of Lords Lunch. These personal invitations ensure parliamentarians understand the real economic, employment and supply chain impact of aluminium within their own constituencies, helping to connect national policy discussions with local industry realities.
By bringing MPs directly into the conversation with senior industry leaders, members can help build informed, long-term relationships that support better policy alignment, stronger domestic demand, and a more resilient, circular UK aluminium sector.
We’ve drafted a template invitation letter in which members can use to invite their local MPs to the event. To access this template, please download it via the ALFED Members Area: Template Invitation Letter – Invite your MP to the House of Lords Lunch – ALFED Members
