Modifying 6xxx series aluminium alloys with the addition of 4xxx series fillers in foil or wire form can help reduce the susceptibility to Cold Spray for the Welding of Crack-Sensitive Alloys - The Aluminium Federation cracking, however this can be difficult when working with complex assemblies with limited access. The cold spray technique provides a solution to this problem, coating all kinds of irregular and complex shapes with a buttering layer before welding.
