Nadine Bloxsome, ALFED’s Chief Executive Officer, has been invited to join the HMRC Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) Joint Industry Working Group (JIWG). This prestigious invitation reflects ALFED’s growing influence and credibility as a key stakeholder in shaping UK aluminium sector policies.

The UK CBAM JIWG, established following the Autumn Budget 2024, is tasked with collaborating on the development and implementation of the UK’s CBAM, which will take effect in January 2027. This working group brings together industry leaders and experts to provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by the mechanism. Nadine’s participation will ensure that the unique needs and perspectives of the aluminium sector are effectively represented.
For ALFED and its members, this development is particularly significant. It establishes a direct link between ALFED’s Trade Committee and HMRC, providing a clear channel to voice concerns and challenges related to CBAM implementation. This includes addressing issues such as compliance burdens, competitiveness risks, and alignment with international trade practices.
Through this involvement, ALFED will actively contribute to shaping a CBAM framework that supports sustainability objectives while safeguarding the competitiveness of UK aluminium producers. Nadine’s role will also enable ALFED to proactively inform members about policy developments and advocate for solutions that mitigate potential negative impacts on the sector.
We look forward to leveraging this opportunity to amplify the voice of our members and ensure that the UK aluminium industry is well-prepared for the upcoming changes.
For any questions or to contribute insights to be shared with the JIWG, please contact Nadine directly. Further updates will be provided after the inaugural session of the working group on 20th January 2025.
