TWI Explain The Benefits of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) - The Aluminium Federation

The Benefits of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is a manufacturing process that uses high temperatures and pressures to create parts from powdered materials, including metals such as aluminium. The process involved packing the powders into a mould which is then sealed before the air is removed from inside using a vacuum pump. The pressure and heat causes the powders to create dense, bonded components.

Used in a wide range of industries, HIP offers a range of advantages including improved design freedoms, reduced requirements for welding, material cost savings, improved mechanical properties, reduced instances of hydrogen induced stress cracking, reduced scatter, improved ultrasonic defect detection, and more.
