Powdertech Surface Science has underlined its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices through achieving ISO14001 certification, approved by LRQA.

Powdertech’s Operational Director Phil Tyler  said, “As a business, doing things the right way is important to us. Over the last four years we have invested £1.6m in our facilities and, more importantly to me, we have also invested in our team through recruitment and extensive staff training.’’

“The knowledge and commitment of our Manufacturing Engineer Richard Knight has been crucial to us gaining full accreditation. He has organised and implemented the physical measures required throughout our business and set up systems to ensure that the necessary documentation is up to date at all times.”

“Our work towards ISO14001 was supported throughout by independent management systems consultant, Jan Atherton, an expert in ISO certification. Jan’s expertise and assistance was invaluable.”

To achieve ISO 14001 certification, Powdertech:

  1. Regularly monitors and reviews control measures to drive continuous improvement and these efforts are tracked through green KPIs, to ensure that the processes align with their environmental goals.
  • Dedicates an average of 4-6 hours each week to maintaining and refining their Environmental Management System (EMS), reflecting a proactive approach to environmental management.
  • Collaborates with waste collection services at least once a month to ensure responsible disposal and recycling practices.
  • Conducts regular audits of both the Quality Management System (QMS) and EMS. These audits verify that Powdertech adheres to ISO 14001’s stringent standards and are constantly improving their systems and processes.

What does ISO 14001 mean for Powdertech’s customers and partners?

Powder coating is a ‘greener’ process than wet paint. It is Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) free, non-toxic, and uses less energy and water than other coating methods. By aligning with best practices defined under ISO 14001, customers and partners can be assured that their operations prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility. ISO 14001 certification demonstrates Powdertech’s dedication to delivering high-quality products and services while minimizing the impact on the planet.

Powdertech Surface Science operates under an Integrated Management System (IMS) that combines; a Quality Management System (QMS) and an Environmental Management System (EMS). This holistic approach ensures that high standards are maintained across all areas of their business.

Phil Tyler said: “For Powdertech, ISO 14001 is more than a certification; it’s a reflection of our values. Together, we are building a greener and a more sustainable future for our business”.
