CCA Extension Consultation

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched a consultation on extending the CCA scheme for two years.  See: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/climate-change-agreements-scheme-extension-and-reforms-for-any-future-scheme

You have until 11 June 2020 to respond.

The consultation sets out how the scheme will re-open to new entrants.  You can now apply for your facilities to join the scheme although approval is subject to the outcome of the consultation. The guidance “setting up climate change agreement” tells you how to apply https://www.gov.uk/guidance/setting-up-a-climate-change-agreement-cca. The closing date for applications is 30 September 2020 but no new agreements will be issued until December 2020 at the earliest.

Please be aware that we intend to contact operators directly about the launch of the consultation, but will delay doing so until next week.

CCA Evaluation Report

BEIS has also published the report of its evaluation of the current CCA scheme.  See: www.gov.uk/government/publications/second-climate-change-agreements-scheme-evaluation.

Annual Charges

We can confirm that we will be issuing Memorandum of Accounts for the 2020/21 annual target unit charges to sector associations on 16 April 2020.

Given the delay in sending the MoAs out, we have extended the deadline for sector associations to advise us of the number of Direct Debit instalments they would like to use.  Please email cca-help@environment-agency.gov.uk to confirm arrangements by 27 April 2020.

Similarly, we ask that any sector associations that need to either set up or amend a previous Direct Debit instruction email SSCL (our finance service provider) at: sscl_directdebit_mailbox@gov.sscl.com by 27 April 2020.

Coronavirus

We recognise the wide range of challenges Coronavirus is causing across the country and that some customers are particularly affected by the recent moves to restrict the impact of the virus.

If you will experience difficulties in paying annual charges in a timely manner as a result of the impact of Coronavirus please email cca-help@environment-agency.gov.uk.  It may be possible to set up a payment plan as a result of your circumstances.

The Environment Agency will continue work to provide the appropriate level of regulation and services for our customers to ensure the environment is protected.
