Advanced Engineering, the UK’s largest annual gathering of OEMs and engineering supply chain professionals, is inviting exhibitors, visitors and associations to the 2018 conference programme.

The presentations will take place at the largest, free to attend Open Forum programme of its kind. They will highlight the latest developments in key industries – aerospace, automotive, composites, connected and, digital manufacturing, advanced materials and new for the show this year – civil nuclear new-build engineering.

Topics will cover the full range of advanced engineering capabilities, including:

  • Design
  • Processing
  • Manufacturing
  • Materials
  • Supply Chain
  • Sustainability
  • Testing & Measurement
  • Repair and inspection

If you are interested in speaking on any of the above themes to a select and expert audience, please email, providing your name, company, contact details, as well as a title and a short description of your presentation. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 25 May.

Alison Willis, Industrial Divisional Director at Easyfairs, organisers of the show, said: “The Open Forum programme is a unique opportunity to present your research and case studies to a very select audience. Please send us your ideas and our Open Conference organisers will be delighted to consider your application. The programme keeps our show at the cutting edge of advanced engineering innovations.”

The Advanced Engineering Show is celebrating its 10th birthday this year and will be bigger and better than ever, according to show organisers Easyfairs. This builds on the success of the 2017 exhibition, where attendance increased by 15% on the previous year. Visitors stayed on average just under three hours at the show, many looking for new products, suppliers and services.

As last year, the exhibition will be held in halls 2, 3 and 3A, though now there are two entrances to the Show, making navigation of the huge exhibition space easier.

The Show, and its exhibitors, are marketed heavily with over 80 key industry associations and media partners. It is publicised widely, with 2.6 million people reading about it in printed magazines, 3.4 million people learning about it through social media and 2.1 million people viewing the Advanced Engineering website per month.

Last year the show attracted some of the industry’s biggest names including Airbus; Boeing; Jaguar Land Rover; Hexcel; and Dassault Systèmes, who met and did business across the supply chain, with visitors from a range of engineering specialisms including: automation, design & test engineering, process control, machining and many more.

The show takes place on the 31st Oct & 1st Nov, at the NEC, Birmingham, UK. Find out more by visiting or following on social media @advancedenguk #AEUK18.

U.S. Treasury Extends Wind-Down Period for United Company RUSAL PLC

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) today issued General License 14 in the Ukraine-/Russia-related sanctions program.

General License 14 is extended to 23 October 2018 and authorizes U.S. persons to engage in specified transactions related to the maintenance or wind down of operations, contracts, or other agreements, including the importation of goods, services, or technology into the United States, involving United Company RUSAL PLC or any other entity in which United Company RUSAL PLC owns, directly or indirectly, a 50% or greater interest.

In accordance with pre-existing OFAC guidance, OFAC will not impose secondary sanctions on non-U.S. persons for engaging in the same activity involving RUSAL or its subsidiaries that General License 14 authorizes U.S. persons to engage in.

Previously, citizens were ordered to close effective contracts and terminate interaction with the company by 5 June 2018.

Senior provides the perfect delivery

Enjoying a prime location overlooking Lancashire’s cricket pitch at Old Trafford, the stunning views enjoyed by the residents of the new Hilton Garden Inn hotel have been framed by high-quality aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling supplied by Senior Architectural Systems.

Through early engagement and collaboration with main contractor Galliford Try, Senior’s specification team was able to advise on the most cost-effective solution to delivering a glazing package that met with both the desired aesthetic and performance requirements of architects ICA and the client.

To create the bright and welcoming entrance to the new hotel, Senior’s slimline SF52 aluminium curtain walling was used alongside the manufacturer’s SPW600 aluminium casement windows and robust SPW501 aluminium commercial doors. The rooms at the rear of the hotel, which directly overlook the cricket ground, feature Senior’s patented, thermally-enhanced PURe® SLIDE aluminium sliding doors which open onto individual balconies that can be also be used as private corporate boxes during events at the cricket ground.

Careful consideration was given to the acoustic performance of the glazing package, particularly on the front elevation of the hotel which is located close to a main road. To further enhance the comfort of the hotel’s guests, Senior’s innovative PURe® SLIDE doors offer exceptional low U-values and improved thermal efficiency.
