The 2018 Metals Industry Apprentice of the Year Competition, sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers, is now open for applicants. There are two awards, each worth over £1,200 (as well as runner-up prizes), which are open to current or recently completed apprentices working in metals’ industry companies. Any apprentice working in a business which falls within the scope of Metals Forum trade associations is eligible.
These are the only awards specifically for metals industry apprentices, and they offer a major incentive for apprentices as well as excellent publicity opportunities for the Award Winners’ companies. If you have apprentices, please do encourage them to apply.
The two awards are:
– Career Development Award: designed to encourage and reward exceptional personal development and commitment to career progression.
– Craft Skills Award: designed to encourage and reward the achievement of high level, practical, ‘hands-on’, engineering, metallurgy or manufacturing skills.
The judges will be looking for apprentices who have made exceptional progress in developing their knowledge, skills and career in the metals industry; who have made outstanding contribution to their company; and who can demonstrate the greatest development during their apprenticeship. Evidence of “distance travelled”, in terms of individual achievement together with commitment and contribution to the company, will be as important as advanced qualifications or skills.
The closing date for applications is Friday 9 February 2018
