More than 40% of UK consumers now rate cans as their preferred drinks container, according to recent research by GfK, which was commissioned by BCME. A drink from a can was consumed at least once a week by 5% of respondents.
The research also found that 99% of UK consumers understand that aluminium cans are recyclable.
This news coincides with the growing popularity of canning among craft breweries, driven by lower minimum canning quantities being offered, and acceptance that canned beer can also be 'real ale'.
The Campaign for Real Ale ('CAMRA') recently carried out tests on the Moor Beer Company’s canned ales at the Great British Beer Festival, and concluded that as they contained live yeast and any carbonation was the result of natural secondary fermentation, they could indeed be termed ‘Real Ales’.
