Advanced Aluminium Engineering for the Automotive Industry

Aluminium has featured in the automotive industry from its earliest days. But the past decade has seen a massive rise in its use, both in traditional areas such as wheels and engines, and innovative uses such as the aluminium-intensive vehicle structures pioneered by Jaguar Land Rover and the new ‘multi-material‘ platforms of Audi, Daimler Benz and others.

The growth of interest in aluminium is driven by ever-increasing demands in the areas of performance, emissions, safety and styling – but at acceptable commercial cost.

Technical innovation has risen to meet these challenges, and developments continue apace. It is forecast that the aluminium content of cars will increase still further in years to come, which will present the aluminium and automotive industries with both opportunities and challenges. The picture is complicated by trends such as electric and hybrid power, autonomous vehicles and the increasing ‘servitisation’ of personal transport.

Advanced Aluminium Engineering for the Automotive Industry, is a new conference, developed to reflect the intense interest in technical developments in this area.

Focusing on current developments, the Conference will present market-leading and emerging technologies concerning aluminium in vehicle manufacturing. Speakers and participants from the aluminium industry, automotive component suppliers, OEMs, and mechanical engineering will discuss innovative developments and new technologies for the automotive engineering of the future.

The Conference is a predominantly technical conference, with sessions focusing on

       ·        Alloy development

·        Castings

·        Recycling – process and end-of-life

·        Forging

·        Sheet forming

·        Joining, bonding and welding

·        Extrusions

·        Durability

Organisations already confirmed as presenting include Constellium, CRU, Rio Tinto Automotive, Innoval Technology, Alloy Heat Treatment, Castalum, IPG Photonics, Hydro Extruded Products (SAPA), SDF Automotive, European Aluminium, Bmax, Aeromet and Impression Technologies.

For individual speakers, see the Conference programme.
